Afternoon Tea at the Ritz Carlton

Last week was full of celebrations. It started off with my ROM then followed by my best friend’s birthday. She joined me and turned 29 this year. Since it was our last year before the big 3-0, we decided to celebrate by taking her out for a delectable high tea at The Ritz Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.

From the moment we stepped into the hotel, the atmosphere was of course exquisite. The floor had beautiful black marble tiles which made every footstep echo. A large white crystal chandelier that hung from the ceiling scattered yellow light across the room. The lounge was filled with pastel green silk sofas and lovely paintings that contrasted against the rich cream walls.

We made reservations for three, and a friendly waiter brought us to our tables. After we sat down, we looked through the menu, and it was a comprehensive list of 40 different types of tea from all over the world. We each selected tea from different categories, black, green and herbal. My favourite was the soft peach herbal infused tea. The colour was dark pink, and the blend had a unique yet subtle flavour.

After waiting for about an hour, the beautiful three-tier afternoon tea which comprises of sweet and savoury items finally arrived. It had chicken pie, mini fish quiche, lobster pancakes, macaroons, chicken rolls, egg tarts, scones and cakes. Each tray had a good portion for one. We ate heartily and truly enjoyed the food. However, raisin scones were slightly under-baked and dry, very much to our disappointment.

Everyone at the hotel was dressed with sophistication, and the room was filled with conversations and laughter from people from all walks of life. The ambience was even more spectacular with a pianist playing jazz music in the background.

It was indeed a great experience, so if you are keen for regal service and atmosphere, live music, excellent afternoon tea, then this place is a must try.

The afternoon tea is priced at RM 80 per pax (inclusive of taxes), and it is available daily from 3pm-6pm. Seats are limited hence reservations are recommended.
